"Special" vs. "normal" primer for prop?

Does one have to use the special, expensive primer specifically marketed for use on bronze props prior to antifouling, or will any generic primer work OK (not necessarily as well, but acceptably well)?

Hempels and similar is nearly 10x the cost of regular, e.g. automotive anticorrosion primer.

???

Y0u don't put bottom paint on props, so don't worry about what primer to use.

Use something like Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle paint, works just fine.

The boatbuilder-owner of a large marina told me that automotive Zinc Chromate primer works fine if you're using bottom paint. I use the barnacle barrier.

I've decided to just polish it well, wax it, and see how it goes. Cheers.

I tried that last year and lost reverse propulsion at the end of the year in only brackish water. I hate barnacles!
Cheers
