Halyard attachment.
I love the used mainsail I got from Bacon's last year and only used a few times before season's end. The halyard attachment was on the second hole aft. When using said sail I've had problems with too much twist. Last week I opened the first hole on the headboard and WaLa! Sail sets way way better and way less twist! Little things.. mean allot.. :D

Yes they can!

Usually the hole you use in the headboard is dictated by how the halyard drops out of the exit sheave. On a previous boat the sheave was quite proud of the mast track and using the forward hole pulled the slugs out of the track.

It's all in the details......
