Chagauramas, Trinidad has a number of contractors who can do a very professional job painting topsides for something around US$100/foot. I employed Rawle Walker, who works primarily at Power Boats, for paint work on BR in 2005 and 2010. He does a great job and will work with you, if you want to do parts of the project. There are 3 or 4 other contractors who have equally good reputations. Send me a PM if you want further info.
I would avoid Venezeula as it is not safe, and Columbia is a long way down wind. Trini is an interesting place and fun to visit, but it’s not without it’s own problems. All in, I think it offers very good value when it comes to repairing / refitting boats and is a good place to wait out the hurricane season.
PS -- re paint choice: Awlgrip seems to be the paint of choice for most contractors. We used Awlcraft 2000 on our steel hull because it’s much easier to repair when you get “dinged” by a dinghy or mooring ball or the odd dock piling. Our paint job is now going on 6 years and still looks great. I’ve had several patches done (professionally) and it’s almost impossible to tell where they are.
