Idea for Dinghy bridle

Our dinghy is small and with a 3.5 hp motor. Without the motor I am easily able to pull the dinghy out just by pulling it up bow first and over the rails, but I would like a way to lift the dinghy and engine out of the water when at anchor.

Suggestions? Pictures, even better.

Havn't got pics but on Raven's inflatable we have two athwartship lines with a loop at centre that are positioned so that when spare halyard is attached to them both she comes up balanced. Took a bit of time to get it right but it seems to work OK for us.

tdw's got the idea... a three point lift might be overall easier to set up. Obviously different balance point with the motor on.

Do you intend to set the dinghy upright on deck? If not seems to me you're still removing the engine anyway?...... or are you just suspending the dinghy alongside for a quiet night?

yer probly right Fast ... three point with two points attached to motor bracket would also be good and strong.

Pamlico ... have you thought about what happens when you get dinghy with motor on board ? Me I'd prefer to remove motor first then hoist dinghy.

Yep, three points is good.

I had two towing eyes bolted through the transom of my dink. Since towing stuff was not a priority they were turned around with the eyes inwards. Another U-bolt in the front, properly adjusted line lengths and the dink comes out the water on a halyard as if it were on davits. On rough nights I hoist the dink alongside out of the water just to keep it quiet.

I also have a longish line spliced in at the apex of the rope tripod and it is really useful for tying up alongside stuff (piers, other boats, etc)

I am with TDW 3 point bridle and engine off. I also use the spinnaker halyard. I also use my whisker pole as a stand off until the dink clears the life line.

Thanks for the responses...Yeah, I just want an easy way to keep the motor on the dinghy when at anchor but lift it to prevent theft. We don't have a comfortable sugar scoop stern and it is awkward getting the motor off the dinghy onto the brackets - especially if we are at anchor for days.

One of these days I will drop the outboard in the water and then all of this will become an urgent matter....
