anchor chain, G70?

I recently bought 300' of 5/16" G70 anchor chain from a major retailer. I find that the inside length of the links too long, and won't fit my windlass. By the information I can find, both in the retailer's catalog and on-line, G70 should be just a little shorter link than G43. What I got also carries no embossed markings. Its dimensions are closest to proof coil chain. I wonder if I got proof coil by a warehouse mistake? Or maybe there's some out-of-spec chain out there?
