Johnson Sailmaster 6 hp throttle 'frozen'

I was bringing the Ranger 23 into dock when the outboard tilted up unexpectedly (with my hand on the throttle) ... the throttle control now has very little play in it ... she starts fine and runs in idle but it seems as if the throttle is frozen somehow ... model is J6SLCCS (1988 sailmaster trim and tilt) ... the associated parts breakdown is here ...

I'm thinking perhaps I might have somehow stripped the throttle friction control (#43) ... does this sound right? ... and if so is it something I can repair and replace myself or is it time to find an outboard mechanic?

again ... thanks in advance for any input.

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the exact same problem on the same engine. I managed to get the handle mostly unassembled, but can't figure out how to replace the cable. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
