Arrow Full a"head"

I need to temporarily put in a port-a-potty, until I get around to put in a full system. The marine head I've got is a good one, but no holding tank. I don't have the time now, to do the whole system.

I'd really like suggestions on what brand is sturdy and will take heavy seas and stand up......well built and tough.

Thanks!

I've got a Thetford on mine, 30 something years old and you can still get parts for it.

I think the OP is talking about the holding tank.

I've got the same system Knothead has, except mine's red.

We use a Thetford on our Catalina 309. For our daysailing and occasional cruising, a porta potti is better than a marine toilet with holding tank, so we removed the system that came with out boat.

Aside from very low maintenance and no odor problems, we know that the most our toilet can ever cost us in repairs is the cost of a new one, which is about 75 bucks.

We have had no problem with our Thetford in the four years that we've been using it.

I should also mention, as you use a porta potti, securing it can be a little tricky. Also, they have a larger footprint than a marine toilet, which you've probably taken into account.

I have Velcro strips underneath our porta potti. Also have a fitting located behind the porta pottie that will accept the hooks on a motorcycle hold-down strap. We can cinch the strap down around the porta pottie, making it very secure.

Which model?......

I am starting to agree it might be more practical than a full marine system, but a sturdy mounting system is critical. Even I got in a storm and rolled the boat I'd want the toilet to stay put. I can find a way to mount it well, but I've seen a lot of reviews stating the base can crack.......due to poor construction.

porta potti vs. head system

This labor day weekend, I made the decision to remove the full head system in our hunter / cherubini 27. The toilet, bladder tank, hoses, whale gusher pump and diverter....all out! I have read that the hoses begin to smell after a few years anyway. I am installing a porta potti system. The longest we would stay on the boat would be a couple of days. The boat has been rid of the the old system for about 6 hours and now smells much better!

Pethia- I did the same thing. What a nasty job! But the boat does smell better. I'm using the Thetford.
