jbarros is on a distinguished road
holes in the mast

Hi,

So I got the mast down on Josie, and am going to put on the new spreaders this weekend. There are a couple cleats and halyards I realy dont need on the mast, and which seem to have been put there for the sole purpose of snagging jib sheets whil tacking. I want to pull them out, but I''m afraid to create holes in my extruded aluminum mast. Does anyone know if my fears of compromising the structure are sound, or if I''m just being overly paranoid?

Thanks.

The holes are already there. Just drill out the rivets and once the hardware is removed snap a pop-rivet into each hole. This looks much better than an open hole and is no different than what you have right now from a structural point of view.
