I currently have a single mooring cleat at the bow, with chocks on either side. I would like to have two mooring cleats. Is there any disadvantage to having the cleats right at the rail, with no need for a chock? Seems to me there would be less chafe.
What you describe is a much better rig. I'm thinking of getting rid of the chocks on my boat and putting the cleats on the rail. Less chafe, better leads.
