Lifeline upgrade

Is it possible (reasonable) to make a modification to my single lifeline to add another line to make it a double? I really don't want to buy all new stantions.

I assume you're suggesting keeping the same stanchion heigth and drilling the pipes or putting a collar on the existing stanchions. It seems to me that I remember Schaeffer had a piece that could be tensioned onto an existing stanchoin like a collar with a fairlead to run a lifeline.

I have them on my boat. Work fine. Way expensive for what they are, I think, but they are solid.

Instead of running another lower lifeline, why not add 1/4" nylon line crisscross fashion between the stanchions from each stanchion to the toerail. Use a continuous piece of line running from stanchion to toerail and back up to stanchion etc. This would give more probability of catching you if you were to slip. OTOH, a good SHORT tether is better. If you are on the port side, attach to the starboard jackline and vice versa. You might also want to simply use lifeline netting and a tether system.
My 28' S2 has only single lifelines and I considered adding lower ones but decided other netting and tether was actually safer.

That is a good idea. I was thinking about adding netting all the way around to keep my dog onboard.
