It''s likely mineral oil -- this is the recommended setup for in-hull transducer pucks. Mine came with a base collar that is glued/epoxied to the hull and holds the oil. The twist-collar on it seals the whole thing together. In the absence of that, I''d suggest any kind of pipe/hose clamp jury-rig, and maybe some o-rings, that will stabilize the transducer and keep the oil in place

I would remove the pipe and epoxy the transducer to the hull. Just make sure there are no air pockets in the epoxy. You can experiment to get optimum performance using a ziploc bag filled with water before gluing. Good luck...Gary

What if I inverted a closed pipe end with a notch in it for the wire and put a compression spring with a little tension in between it and the transducer top to keep it in place. or will that cause a problem?I like the idea of being able to service a unit without tearing the boat apart to do it.I am considering finding a speed log that mounts on the hull with no holes to bother withreally tired of removeing mollusks from the paddle wheel. If you know of a model that works let me know. thanks kd
