I don't understand the question. Isnt the Garmin 76 a handheld chartplotter? Charts are readily available for it. You just download them from Garmin.
So your upgrade possibilities are a better handheld like the 78, or a fixed chartplotter.
I have a Garmin 78SC which is about the best handheld, with the Bluecharts pre-loaded. It's pretty cool as a backup but I often wish for a proper fixed chartplotter as the screen on the 78 is too small.
By too small I mean you can't see detail like buoys without zooming in so far you can't really see where you're heading, so you're constantly zooming in and out.
