handheld chart ploter

my old garmin 76 has served me well over the years but now i want to upgrade to a handheld chartploter,i'm heading back down the tombigbe the first of nov.but i don't know if i'm going to turn right or left at mobile i have boucou paper for left but nothing for right,any sugestions for a resonable ploter with e charts readily available for tx,mex,and central america.thanks sawingknots

btw,i can single hand the locks ok but wouldn't mind buddying up with another boat atleast part of the way

I don't understand the question. Isnt the Garmin 76 a handheld chartplotter? Charts are readily available for it. You just download them from Garmin.

So your upgrade possibilities are a better handheld like the 78, or a fixed chartplotter.

I have a Garmin 78SC which is about the best handheld, with the Bluecharts pre-loaded. It's pretty cool as a backup but I often wish for a proper fixed chartplotter as the screen on the 78 is too small.

By too small I mean you can't see detail like buoys without zooming in so far you can't really see where you're heading, so you're constantly zooming in and out.

If you want an upgrade from the 76 you might look at the Garmin Oregon or Montana.
