You want to loosen the
rig about 15% to 20%. You don''t want to be able to move it around but you need it to be able to flex in all directions. When the boat is in the water the pressure from the wind is absorbed by hull movement. When you are out of the water the
rig needs to flex sufficiently to absorb this pressure. You mention rod steel. If this means you have rod
rigging you will need to loosen more since ro0d
rigging has less inherent stretch. The mast will expand and contract at a greater rate than the
rigging with temperature variation.
