Simpson Lawrence Windless

Hi folks, I'm new to Sailnet, and I have a question. I own a 1976 Whitby 42 Ketch. We have a Simpson Lawrence Windless that needs repair. I can't find a model type or number. Anyone know if there was a standard model originally installed of that year Ketch. I'll try and post a picture, but have to learn how to do that. Thanks!

Simpson Lawrence was bought by Lewmar. They should be able to supply parts and documentation. My guess is that a boat the size of yours would have the SL Horizon 1500 (if yours is a horizontal windlass). I rebuilt one like this about 5 or 6 years ago and had no trouble getting parts. Expensive tho... This site has quite a bit of info: Homepage | Simpson Lawrence Yacht Parts & Spares

When S-L went under, a lot of spares were bought up by one of the workers of the company.

He can be found on this site.

There are also some pictures of different windlasses on his site.

The major downside for you is that the company is in Scotland, UK - but with the internet, just a click away.

If your windlass is the manual 510, I have an exploded view of it.

There are numbers on the windlass that the parts representative can use to determine the model number.

If so I bought the last three belts in captivity. They went with the windlass when I sold it.

airmar

Hi chef

Not sure yet as it is sitting in a box. From my research it should be good. My big concern is its lifespan.

windlass

Thanks for your thoughts. Miller &Miller boat yard in Seattle was very helpful. The closest match was an Anchorman Power 1200.
