Whitworth threads - converting

I believe I need an Eye-Nut with a Whitworth thread.
Whitworth is an old english thread that is rarely used anymore.

The bolt is a Whitworth 5/16-18 thread. I want eye-nuts to put on two of these bolts.

Is it possible to get eye-nuts with a slightly smaller hole and get them recut to Whitworth 5/16-18?

OR maybe what I should do is get the bolts cut down?
Cause the whitworth bolt will have slightly more metal on it than our normal 5/16-18 threads?

Is any of this possible?

Thanks,
groundhog

anythings is possible, just be aware that BSW is 55 degrees , while everything else is 60 degree thread angle...it will screw on a little bit, but then....

Easier to change the bolts to a more common thread.

Is this on a British engine by any chance?

I found ordinary nuts in BSW :

Groundhog, I'd bet you can mailorder some Whitworth nuts from a British car or cycle supplier of some kind. Heck, there's even an argument going on at Amazon right now because a number of unspecified thread gauges from multiple US vendors are WHITWORTH! not SAE or Metric.

Someone's still got those parts out there. Google "buy whitworth bolts" and you find lots of 'em.

GET RID OF THE WHITWORTH FASTENERS. They will be a curse as long as any of them continue to exist on your boat. They, along with Lucas electrics and Smiths gauges, are one of the root causes of the demise of the English auto and motorcycle industries.

It's bad enough that one has to have both metric and SAE toolsets but adding Whitworth into the mix is beyond human endurance.

Trust me on this - replace any & all Whitworth with your choice of Metric if travelling outside the USA or SAE if staying in North America and toss the Whitworths overboard in the deepest water you can access. You will live a longer, happier and more peaceful life.

On another forum I believe he determined they were metric, not Whitworth. I doubt the Swedes ever used Whitworth either.

I agree, I would remove any Whitworth as well.

Can you provide specific locations so I can rearrange my future travels to avoid them? I'm taking your last words to heart.
