Dupont paint supply....
How things change.
I bought my boat in Houston (now in Scotland), and the hull was painted with a Dupont shade, a beautiful dark blue colour, paint code 63203. I understand that it was a 2-part polyurethane. The activator was the strangely-named 250S, "fast activator".
Now I find that colour is no longer available. I am puzzled, as last time I watched the engineer mix it from various code fractions of colourants.
I only use it for touch-up, and I am getting very low on it indeed.
I have called the supplier here in the UK, and he has kindly offered to colour match it manually, but I am afraid that it will miss. Perhaps I am being too strict?
Tell me guys, is that blue colour 63203 available from Dupont in the States?
I wonder though, if this is typical service, do we have to run the risk of not being able to touch up our boats after 20 years? I mean a full re-spray is horrendously expensive enough, without having to run the risk of your paint code being discontinued 20 years on so you can't touch up the inevitable scratches and wear.
The paint is superb... I mean it really does not fade.... but that's no good to me if I can't touch it up.
Thanks.
Rockter.
