safety lines?

This is an interesting one...

Epic Boat Fail - Guy falls off boat - YouTube

He is clearly half-tanked, but did the safety lines help or hinder him?

They certainly caused some measure of body rotation that may not have happened if the safety lines were absent.

In absence of the rotation, could he have shifted his feet and grabbed on to the side?
