Sealand Self-Contained MSD

Has anyone installed or had any first-hand experience with one of these units? Has a porcelain marine head mounted on a gravity fed holding tank with fresh water foot pump flush.

1) Tired of emptying Porta-potti (although otherwise worked well for us).
2) Don't want a conventional marine toilet and remote holding tank.
3) Can't vent a composting toilet with my boat's head compartment structure.

Any input would be appreciated.

tommays will become famous soon enough

I like mine and after a full season still like it and the only down side is its a BIT tall so check for fit

It is suppose to flush with a pressure pump BUT i guess some kind of hand pump could be made to work

The porcelain is REALLY easy to keep clean and the unit keeps some really fussy people very happy

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

I have one in my camper, and have never had any issues other than the height thing. Easy to fix with a grate in the shower pan. As was mentioned in another thread, you could leave the water off if it only gets used for #1 and leave the dry bowl. If you are really concerned, you could forego the water hookup altogether and use a squirt bottle to rinse the bowl after use. I use a 5gal pail to rinse the whole system when I dump. After 15gals of rinse water (5 per rinse), I can see the bottom of the tank is clean. No smell issues, no problems at all. I'd give serious consideration to one on my boat if the porta-potty wasn't so convenient.
