Has anyone sewn a dousing spinnaker sock?

My wife and her sister are in the process of upholstering all of our interior cushions and providing a new mainsail sock cover.
So, they both know how to sew.

The one I used on a previous sailboat was made out of a light nylon and was nearly the entire length of the spinnaker but unsure the exact length compared to the sail dimension and unsure the proper diameter that it needs to be which I believe is very important.
Does anyone know how do you design a dousing sock?
If I can come up with a plan, I know they can sew it.
Thanks

Sailrite have kits, might give you some ideas of what's involved.

Sailrite has a downloadable set of instructions for $5:

They also have a kit with all the materials you need.
