VHFDSC/GPS compatability

I have to replace my vhf and wanted to get a ICOM but was told by the local sales rep that the ICOMS will not interface with my Garmin gps for the dsc option. Checked with ICOM and they could not tell me yes or no other than they provide instructions for interfacing with certain Furuno and Northstar units.

Anyone encounter this problem? If any solutions found. I like the ICOMS as they got excelent reviews from Practical Sailor.

YES it works fine.

The instructions in the Garman III manual had the wire connections reversed ... there was a tech bulletin on the garmin site. I''ll see if I can find it.

It uses the standard garmin cable. Make sure you apply for the free MMSI code to ID your vessel & description (through FCC if licensed VHF, or Boat US if unlicensed).

I had an almost unbearable urge to sign up as a guided missle frigate, but rational thought returned <g>
