What do I do with my old mainsail?

I have a new mainsail that I hope will not jam in my in-mast furling system the way the old one did. Does my old sail have any value - I'm in a marina in FL on my way to the Bahamas. Do I just throw the old one out?

If it is in reasonable shape, there is probably some salvage value per say. ry one of the used sail places like "Bacon sails" that is one off the top of my head, but there are a few(many) more places that handle used sails.

Any nearby marine consignment store will try to sell them for you.. and even if they don't it's 'free' storage!

Sell it on eBay - someone will take it as a backup...

I've seen them cut up and used as sun shades over the boom and other applications

You could recycle it for your use as CorvetteGuy suggests, but I urge you to put it up for consignment at Bacon Sails or somewhere similar. You'll be helping a fellow sailor out who might be in a jam, and you'll get a few pennies back for your trouble.

Used one together with a jib boom as a sun shade on a deck (of a house not a boat).
