I am planning on purchasing a 5-6KW generator for our boat and would appreciate any advice on brands, freshwater cooling, rpm''s etc and any references that I might be able to read on the subject
Thanks

Suggest diesel for sure. Kubota has about the best engine for a genset these days. Several vendors will use them. Expect to pay a little more for small size and lighter weight diesels.

I bought a 6kw Northern Lights Diesel. It is an 1800 rpm unit. It is small, strong and quiet. Even though it has no soundshield I don''t think it would need one. It has run flawlessly out of the box for about 100 hours. I can only say good things about the quality of the product. I would buy one again.
