Garhauer Rope Clutches

Does Garhauer make good rope clutches. They seem to be less expensive than Spinlock or Lewmar. Opinions matter. Let me know about your preferences. Thanks

Yes, very well made and rugged.

Garhauer makes great equipment and always manage to keep prices in check. And they really understand customer service as well. I've had them modify a couple of things for me, and it has always been at little or no extra charge.

Great stuff. It's what's on my Catalina 309 as standard equipment. When I added an asymetrical spin, I use them for all my blocks. Excellent price on high quality components.

I installed a set last summer. I got a quadruple set of their #13 clutch (they only have single #13 clutches in the catalog, but they have doubles, triples, and quads if you ask them). All stainless (except the grips), and seemingly bulletproof. Great price, too. So far, they've performed flawlessly. Just be aware that they designed to be installed so that the handles fold down when pressed away from the tail end of the line (usually this is forward), rather than toward the tail end. This is the reverse of some clutches, such as the ones I replaced.

They're like a best-kept secret.

Armor clad hardware at an affordable price compared to some other big, brand names.

Great feedback. Thanks a bunch. Heading to Garhauer Marine dot com right now. "Add to shopping cart"

A great high value product at 'reasonable' prices.

Downside ... expect a LOT of rope abrasion and wear on your control lines where the garhauer clutches 'contact' the line in its jaws'. If you dont do much 'adjustment' not a problem but if you constantly 'tweak' expect to replace the lines much sooner than with other clutches.

I installed two Garhauer quad rope clutches on my Catalina 30 cabin top last spring. They're made very well and have performed very well. The bodies are made from polished stainless, which doesn't fade and look bad like the Lewmar clutches they replaced.
The only problem I had was with labeling the levers. I used a machine cut masking to airbrush the labels on and I guess my prep wasn't good enough.
