transmission not engaging

the hurth transmission on my 1982 pearson has recently been taking 5-6 seconds to engage after shifting into either forward or reverse.

any ideas on the cause or fix?

I don''t know the specifics but when was the last time you changed or checked your transmission fluid. I found that makes a big difference. Also check your shifter cable adjustments.

Otherwise, you have might have aging clutches.

transmission not engaging

The transmission fluid was the first thing I checked -- it was fine. Then I retensioned the cable, but still no improvement.

I guess it''s the clutches.
