Cruising Sails

We are looking at buying new sails for our boat and wonder if anyone out there has had any experiences with Lee Sails - pros or cons? If you have a good recommendation for good quality sails at a reasonable price we would be interested in hearing about it.

Cruising Sails

L:

I recently spoke with an Aussie who''s Tayana 47 was based out of Singapore for some time. More recently, he''s cruised across the Indian, up the Red Sea and been in the Med several years before arriving in London...so he seems to be a good source of ''trialed'' gear and vendors from the Far East. He has a full set of Lee sails and spoke highly of them. Surprisingly (to me, anyway), he was not big on Rolly Tasker (an Aussie vendor who some years ago moved to Thailand). I found they (Tasker) provided excellent value on a Mizzen Staysail I purchased from them...but then, it''s a simple sail and it was only one data point and one''s experience with Tasker is in part dependent on the U.S. distributor''s performance, not just the loft. You might look at whether Lee requires an intermediary of some kind, and their reputation, if so. If not, how does Lee propose that problems get addressed in a practical way that''s fair to the buyer.

Re: Cruising Sails

I have assisted with fitting some new Lee sails on two occasions. Three sails for a 48ft ketch and a new main for a smaller boat. They were made to the given spec and seemed well finished off.

More importantly they fitted and and seemed to have good shape. The buyers were happy.
