Any input Garmin 740s

Finally upgrading my GPS unit and I have narrowed it down to a Garmin 740s.

Any opinion on this unit and the difference between the 720 unit?
I will be mounting the unit near my wheel and will be networking the unit.

Re: Any input Garmin 740s

By now you probably already have your 740s installed and running. I hope you are satisfied with it. I have the same unit that I installed last year and love it. It brought me 3000 miles trouble free. I had used the Garmin 540s series on my old boat and really liked the Garmin charts and interface to other apps so I stayed with Garmin.
With the 740s I have also added the Garmin HD radar which really is plug-and-play and I have added AIS via the NMEA 0183 interface. That's great stuff. I now am planning on adding the Garmin windvane and the depth sounder which will connect via NMEA 2000. I haven't done that yet and wonder if you have any NMEA 2000 suggestions. The only downside to this "universal" display is that if the Garmin screen goes, then you lose everything, wind, depth, radar, etc.
It would be nice if the Garmin had an interface to the iPhone/iPad as a backup and convenience factor. I have read that RayMarine has a unit that will do that via wifi from the unit. Hope garmin adds that feature.
