Broken Stanchion Base - Options?

I removed a stanchion base and discovered that it's broken in two places. One repair remains intact but the other fell apart when I removed it. It looks like it was previously repaired with an epoxy or other adhesive. It's cast aluminum and I have the broken piece.

Needless to say J.J. Taylor is no longer in business. I actually contacted Jeremy Rogers (the original British builder who still makes some boats and parts) but the British stanchion bases don't match.

What are the best options for replacement?
-Send it to a shop to weld/repair
-Find someone to fabricate a new one
-Epoxy it again (J.B. weld)?
-Anything else?

The only fix is replacement. Any decent welding shop could easily fabricate replacements out of aluminum or stainless. That's just a triangular base w/ 3 holes welded to a short tube.

That looks like a stock, cast base. You should be able to find a very close, if not exact replacement at consignment shops, chandleries etc.

It is just about the weakest style of base though, so unless your others are in very nice condition, I'd replace them all with something nicer - S/S with 4 holes and a brace etc.

P.S. Forget about trying to repair it - can't be done. You might stick it back together but it won't be safe.

It looks like a fairly simple piece to fabricate, a tube welded onto a flat plate with two holes in it. I'd take a look (odds are more are stressed) and ask a local welding shop about fabbing up 4 or 6 at a time, better price. No big deal.

I'd suggest calling Minney's, if you can send them some pics and all the ID info you have, if there is some kind of marking for JJ Taylor on them it would help. Anyway I'd be surprised if they didn't have some in a box somewhere. Take a look at their blog, they have been sailors and in the salvage bussiness forever, they are good people and will make every effort to help you.

Try Holland Marine Products , they may have same/similar in aluminum or stainless. I worked at JJ Taylors on the 26 and 32 for about a year until they went bust (long time ago). They weren't really into unique parts, mostly off the shelf stuff, so you may have some luck with generic replacement (I recall the bases sat on a molded in riser so the footprint might be an issue). Others are right, it is a weak design and if you are ocean sailing you and the crew deserve more safety.

Yep, thanks for all the suggestions. Holland Marine has matching ones in stock that have the same footprint. They are stainless instead of cast aluminum but that's better. $50, doesn't seem bad, I ordered 4.
