Hunter 37.5 Windlass

Does anyone have any experience with putting a windlass in a Hunter 37.5? A technician has told me he can't add one without modifications to the anchor box. I believe there is a size issue. This doesn't make sense to me that a boat this size wouldn't be designed to accept a windlass.

Any insight is appreciated.

Hunter 37.5 Windlass

I have an 85 hunter 40 and it has a windlass installed by the original owner with no apparent mods to the box.

Re: Hunter 37.5 Windlass

A friend with a 37.5 just installed a windlass last week. He had to install it with the motor/drive in the V berth area and fashioned a small channel to lead the chain back into the chain locker. This also required a notch in the anchor locker lid.

It was not an easy install and he's continuing to have some trouble with leaks by the gypsy.. in his case unfortunately leaking into the V berth area.

In hindsight he may be wishing he'd taken an approach I've seen before.. cutting the anchor locker lid in half, permanently mounting the forward half and installing the windlass in that. Might be something you'll want to consider. Having that hardware hanging off the overhead in the V berth would irk me, probably end up building a box around it just to hide it.
