Lewmar 25 Winch Pawls

I have a Lewmar 25 two speed winch (manufactured between 1976 and 1978) with a broken lower pawl. Lewmar has discontinued parts for this winch so I need to find a source or try to retro fit newer pawls by trimming to size. The pawls are 3/8" tall and approximatly 0.660" wide/long with approximately 0.308 diameter cylinder. Any suggestions are most appreciated.

I'd look for used winches at Bacons sailboat junkyard etc.

Re: Lewmar 25 Winch Pawls

Have you checked yours against current Lewmar pawls? I replaced pawls in my Barients with Lewmar. They were a very close fit, I just needed to replace all of them with new because the slight differences would have had the winches resting on one pawl instead of both.

I suppose I could have filed down the tips of the ones that were a hair longer but why bother? Just change them all. The round "pivot" part where the spring sits was an exact fit in the Barients so I'd be surprised if they didn't fit your winches.
