Butyl for New Plastic Portlights?

I've got the good butyl--MaineSail's stuff--which I use for all deck seating jobs. I'm about to install some new Beckson ports. Will the butyl work well with these? No harm to the plastic? Beckson recommends Dow 795 silicone, which I have. One advantage to the 795 is that it is white and would blend better where it shows on the out trim ring.

Thoughts?

We have Beckson ports and the silicone neutral color is just fine on your white cabin. You shouldn't have too much oozing out anyway.

I would suggest silicone as Beckson recommends. The trim rings "glue" on and butyl is not a glue. I'm not a huge fan of "stupidcone", mostly due to contamination & future re-bedding issues, but for some things it is the right choice..

Re: Butyl for New Plastic Portlights?

Thanks Stu. But I hadn't thought about that trim ring, MS--good point. Of course, I guess I could bed the portlight with butyl and then do the trim ring with sillycone?

(BTW--I have to say, the design of the Becksons strikes me as odd. They seem to be built to keep water inside the boat rather than out)
