Never Launch on Friday the 13th! (ck those valves!)

Eherily jinxed me! The largest sea valve on my boat is leaking! ARRRRG! Fortunately is's only leaking on the sink hose connection ABOVE the ball valve. The hull side of the valve is dry. BUT, one doesn't mess with a 1.5" valve when the boat is afloat. Good news in a way...

Why not? You can close the valve and replace the hose or seal it as necessary in this case.

I may do that but I don't want to pulling on the valve sideways after seeing Main sails' write up on how they fail.

denise, are you sure you aren't a Brit?

For us Colonials, thirteen is an honored and auspicious number.

i suspect thirteen was lucky for you too. After all, just think what might have happened if you had launched on some other day, not seen the leak, and...yes, that's right. It was a GOOD thing you launched on the 13th and had the good luck to see the leak.

See how it works ?!

Hmmm guess my bad luck could be good luck now that I think about it. Yup I must be a Brit!

Jinxed you?!?

Denise - I'm here to help you!

I told you that you should have replaced those valves and the backing plates...

Go from this;

To this;

And yes, that is the same valve that you are having trouble with.

Re: Never Launch on Friday the 13th! (ck those valves!)

Well this morning before I took her out to her mooring I checked. the valve and hull were dry again. so the drip is above the ball valve. hoping it's the hose but it looked like the threads last night. Also the ground wire is clamped with a very rusty stainless clamp. This is of course AFTER the sink is back in and sealed. Sigh..

edit; E, the valve handle says "apollo" on the handle. http://www.apollovalves.com/products...ry_specific/28 it's a ball valve screwed onto a threaded thru hull that's held tight with a large lock nut against the backing plate.
