Nicely equipped pop top boats have lift springs (like those that hold up the hatchback on your minivan) to help raise it up. Don''t know if your boat had them originally or not, but they would not be too hard to add or replace if the ones you''ve got are beat. Here''s a set designed for catalina 22 or 25:
I thought I was the only one that thought it was heavy....I have found that the angle that you attempt to open it changes how heavy it feels. For mine, the best is to open it up by pushing more on the the forward aluminum bracket.
