WINCH 1 do I have. plz help

Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated. I need parts.

Uncle Ron let me walk around his yard to look for a winch last month. Ive been on the prowl for roughly 2-3 years looking for one to use in the tree industry. I was living on the mainland then. When I found this turd (here in Hawaii)I thought I was home free. 5:1 ,had the handle, and the price was right @ $200. Uncle Ron doesnt take stuff back. AS IS

The trick is to mount it to a steel plate that has a 4" truckers strap on it. Wrap the strap around the tree and then use the winch to pretension rigging rope.

BLAH BLAH BLAH All that means nothing because........

Looks like a lewmar brand winch. What parts do you need? Just what are you asking for?

Looked closer at picure #3 and see its missing a gear. Take a measurement of the diameter of the top. Then go to westmarine.com and look up winches to find which model Lewmar winch you have. They come in a bunch of sizes but you should be able to tell by the dimensions provided on the catalogue. Then contact Lewmar to see if they can provide the gear. I believe it should be the same size as the other gear. Good luck.

A lewmar huh. I'll take a look online in the morning. Never found a makers mark just a #2 stamped about 4 different places.
The middle picture is the best view of what's missing. One of the gears is gone and a ratchet pawl is broken . I also need the 4 brass bolts(for gears and ratcheting pawls).

Thanks a name to get started on.

Its a 5\8 square drive handle. If that helps. I've looked at lots of images and can't find squat.

Re: WINCH 1 do I have. plz help

It looks like a knock off. For many years the Asian boatyards would supply their boats with locally made Asian copies of major winch company products. Some of these were reasonably good products but most cut corners in terms of lacking roller bearings, using out of date technologies and mediocre metalurgy. The other issue with these winches was that you could not get replacement parts. There was a time when there were very few standard winches on the market so it was not unusual to have a one of a kind winch. By the time that 2 speed winches hit the market, (like this one) the design was complex enouigh that most yards bought off the shelf Barients, Barlows, Lewmars, and Merrimans. But not the Asians.

Oh that sounds real promising. You know now that you say that????? No bearings cheap metal, I may have very well bought a turd. Anybody have some polish for it b4 I sell it? Really liked the simpliciy of it. Its going to get minimal use to. Bummer if this is how the story ends.
