radar question

I have a wee JRC 1000 radar, but I have to move it from its stern pole mount to make way for a wind-vane autopilot.

I have been looking at a mast mount forward of the mast, but it has always puzzled me as to why the mast does not simply blind the radar from behind.

The JRC has a radome of about 11".

I have not measured the mast recently but it will be narrower than that.
