Butyl and teak work?

This is a simple question, could I use the butyl tape for bedding teak stuff in my boat to avoid leaking inside my boat? This teak is the base for rail and traveller of mainsail and is fixed on the boat with thought bold.
Thanks for any help!

Butyl and teak work?

Yes. Butyl is the preferred method of bedding for this application.

Re: Butyl and teak work?

I've done it with butyl tape -- no worries. I seal the bedding surface of the teak with epoxy just to satisfy my anal retentive side.

What, exactly, do you seal with epoxy to satisfy your anal retentive side?
Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have used it for mohagony sealed with cetol. Works great for me- coaming boards and companionway trim. It has been rained on quite a bit lately and zero leaks.
