Land Lover Needs Advice

I have no idea if this is the right place to ask this question but here it goes. I am in the process of decorating a library for my father as a suprise. He really wants a nautical theme. I found some items fairly reasonable, I don't want to spend a forture but I don't want to buy thift store crap either. Can anyone tell me if these items are good or not worth the effort?

There is also a cool telescope but I have a feeling I wont be able to afford that. I just know nothing about nautical, my exposure to boats has always just been ski boats.

Thanks for your help

I don't know your location.
But I will say, if you can, go to a "boat junk yard" (or whatever they are called) and get the stuff there, you'll save tons of money and you'll get the real thing.
Will use ebay to get some used nautical charts though; they can make several itmes for decoration from framing them and hanging them on the wall to covering lamp shades and more depending on your creativity.
Good Luck !!

26" is a tad small for making a statement in a library, though it might work well on a decent sized boat. On a wall, even a 4' wheel will seem diminished. You might be better off with some framed prints of ships (sailing or otherwise) or lighthouses. The clock could hopefully have ships bell chimes, which would add immeasurably to the atmosphere, along with the gleaming reflections. Perhaps a barometer? You could find a non-matching (and therefore cheaper) clock and barometer. Mounting them far apart from each other would increase the effect and no one no one would notice they didn't match.

I think you gotta' find a sneaky way of talking to your dad, or someone who knows him well. Having messed around with boats all my life there's things that mean a lot and not. It's really personal. Hare to guess. Look at what he's got stuffed around. for me it might be ke a blow-up photos of me and my first boat... the nameplate from my catboat... stuff I've got around that could be mounted. If your dad kept it, it probably means something.
