Re: main sail fell, halyard at top of mast....

LOL, this is awesome. I just replaced some running rigging the other day. I made absolutely sure to hang on to the loose ends, while unhooking the shackles, etc. Very afraid of heights and was sure I was going to "lose my grip on something" and have to go up the stick.

I'll tuck this idea in the "hope I never need it, but if I do . . . " category.

Would love to see a pic or video too.

That's my way of doing things. duct tape and 8' poles. And I'm tying messenger lines to all my halyards.

And My halyards have a little loop on the pull...Now I know what it is for. :headsmack:

what do you use as a messenger line and how to do you secure it to your halyards... mine are getting old enough that I'm thinking I should pre rig them that way, no obvious chafe yet but want to be prepared.

Was the loop on the pull of the halyard (I assume you mean the end that terminates in the cockpit?) done by you? How (if you know, if you didn't do it)? - sounds like a good idea.

Thanks,
Jon

I would have to use the chef's method...I don't have a backstay! Your idea is genius however! Thanks for sharing.

I did it! Video posted. Boy, there is a first time for everything. First getting the halyard stuck, getting it down and now posting a video on YouTube. Thanks again for the coaching.
