foulies on the cheap

So, I may have a chance to go crewing, but I need foulies. now, of course, I''m sure I could find some that were incredibly cheap, but there''s a catch... I need them to work.

So, what do you guys think is the best value in foulies? I''ll be sailing in the Pacific Northwest.

Some of the most expensive but best ones from most peoples point of view are Musto. It seems that every manufacturer, Gill, Helly Hansen, Henri LLoyd, Musto, has their top end product, which sometimes is overkill, to compete with Musto who only really sells better stuff. Most of the other manufacturers have a inland coastal, coastal, offshore, and Ocean productline. Just make sure your comparing apples to apples. I don''t own a Musto yet but plan to someday. some good sites to look are www.apsltd.com for musto, and www.sailingproshop.com for Gill. then there are a lot of other after that. Both have their "sale rack sections" and also laylines website is good. If you are in Annapolis then Fawcetts has some great after christmas deals going on right now on everything. I was impressed. Most of the big name manufacturers in the same catagory are pretty close in quality.

this answer all depends on what sailing you will be doing and in what conditions and for how long.

I have a few suggestions. As luck has it, this is the time of year that retailers either discount or return to the manufacturer their ''03 inventory. Also try the clearance sections of websites like west marine, defender, lay line, campmor, etc. You might also try ebay. Good luck.

You could always try the "Hefty" line, cutting a few holes in a trash bag. That ought to be cheep enough! Just kidding! Try a commercial fishing supply or industrial clothing store for Grundens or the like.

If your going to be sailing up here in this cold WET climate you better get something that breathes. If you get a little wet on the inside or start sweating you might as well not even wear FWG. Something with a little wool or synthetic wool. It will keep you warm even if moisture gets in. And something to keep your feet dry too. Getting chilled takes any enjoyment right out of sailing so spend a little extra.
