Rear Seal Replacement
Ahoy,
This past sailing season I noticed more oil then I consider okay in my oil drip pan. My ex engine mechanic said it was a rear seal leak which is common and I need not worry about it. I used two quarts of oil over the season.
Another mechanic also said after checking that he has seen much worse on the majority of the engines he has worked on.
I''m wondering if I''m going overboard by wanting to have the rear seal replaced.
Boat is a 84 sail with the original 50hp Perkins with approx. 3000 engine hrs.
Have intentions of heading south next season via the ICW where the engine will be used more then usual.
Thanks ahead of time for all comments.
