Combo anchor & steaming light

Hi All...

I'm looking for a masthead light that is both an anchor light and a steaming light. Perhaps something similar to the OGM tri color / anchor, where there are a few LEDs int here but the housing is partitioned?

I like my OGM light quite a bit, but I am going to a much smaller mast head and there is just no room for it. So its going to a friend, and I'm in search of a smaller light.

Thanks!

Re: Combo anchor & steaming light

Steaming lights and anchor lights are at different places on the boat, they can't be combined.

A steaming light should be placed 1/2 to 2/3 of the way up the mast. While an anchor light should be at the very top of the boat. Other than electrically they are independent systems.

Re: Combo anchor & steaming light

A steaming light is also only vis from 180 deg ( sorry, 225 deg).any way's, An anchor light need's 360 deg. vis. You should have an anchor light that comes on automatically when the sun goes down. Also, when it's on the mast head sometimes it blends in with the stars for a fast moving skiff. I hang mine low, 10 feet above my bimini. There is a mlia sec. when it's obscured by the mast from head on, but it illuminates the boat so you can still see it.

Steaming/masthead lights can be on the top of the mast. Here is a link to a combination masthead/anchor light Perko, Masthead, All Around Light, Combination, 12v Volts There are others out there too.

Re: Combo anchor & steaming light

You can actually do this with a single all round anchor light at the top of the mast combined with the red/green lights. But you cannot use a stern light with this as the anchor light replaces both the steaming and stern light.

Colregs allows this, but it is seldom seen.

And you would still need a stern light when under sail.

How do Col Regs allow for this or am I misinterpreting your post ?
