Can I apply epoxy filler over barrier coat?
I recently had all blisters repaired, applied barrier coat and bottom paint but during transportation into the water, the bottom was scratched, leaving a long deep scratch in the hull. Not deep enough for any extensive fiberglass repair but pass the gelcoat.
It's been in the water for a while and I found this when I hauled out the sailboat to repair and upgrade two new through-hulls. Boatyard, which I am not at anymore, stated it was not there. I did not hit anything or develop this scratch.
Anyways, how it happen I guess is a unknown factor and I cannot do anything about it so I need to repair the scratch.
To the question, right or wrong, I don't want to strip the entire area and redo it.
Can I sand just the scratched area, apply epoxy filler or another similar filler or vinylester filler, touch up the barrier coat and apply two coats of bottom paint just in that area?
How perfect does the process has to be. I.E. if there are areas where the barrier coat is not completely removed but there are some filler over it?
