Anyone know where to buy an Autohelm 3000 motor plug?

Hi, I have an Autohelm 3000 autopilot and need to replace the two pin plug coming from the motor to the control box. A previous owner has soldered the wires to the pins in the plug, not very well at that. So, it now looses power whenever it feels like it.

I have taken the plug apart, but the plug and pins are too damaged to repair. I was hoping to find a replacement end or a good plug and wire off a motor that someone on the forum no longer needs.

I have tried finding out what the plug type is so I maybe able to buy the end at an Electronics store, but can't seem to find the name of the connector.

So, if you have a spare cord from an old motor or know where to buy the connector, I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It might be easiest to change both the plug and the socket in the control unit for a new, available type.

I'm not sure if the socket in the control box can be replaced or not. I will check it out this weekend.

Just replacing the motor cord connector would be much easier, no disassembly of the control unit.

Thanks for the reply and Idea.

Go to Ebay and shoot a message to this guy. I've bought a couple of autohelm parts from him and he was very good to deal with.

eBay My World - kodiakjack99

He may or may not have what you need but from what I understand he purchased the stock of a shop that used to service Autohelm products. None of the stuff I bought from him was listed via e-bay. I just asked and he had the parts I needed and I know he's helped others from Sailnet as well.

Good Luck

That's a great idea, hope it works for you. We have an ST3000 and really like it.

If that doesn't work, you might want to consider another run-around that plug. Hardwire from the box to a short length of wire with a plug you CAN find. Then install a matching plug on the wire from the motor.

Have you tried Radio Shack?

As I recall, these units were made in the UK. You could try asking here: Yachting and Boating World - Sailing and motor boats for sale, forums, news | ybw Reader to Reader forum, or try UK suppliers for electronic parts.

Good luck.

Re: Anyone know where to buy an Autohelm 3000 motor plug?

I have made new connectors using epoxy to pot the pins and connecting wires. Would that be an option?

I know you are in the USA, but try phoning the Raymarine branch at Portsmouth, UK. They are very helpful, and have some spares - I have the same unit at you. The unit has a plug that was fitted to go into the AH3000 control unit, but was not available, and they supplied and adaptor cable with a "new" plug that is smaller, but fits the ST3000 control head.

If you get through, you may be transferred to the Raymarine company in the USA - but ask to be put through to the UK branch.
