Outboard Engine Starting Problem

I have a 1993 Honda 9.9 outboard with a weird problem. Normally it is stored tilted up on the boat. When I put it down at the dock it runs just fine and it will run you out in the bay. When we are sailing we tilt it back up to get the prop out of the water. At then end of the sail, when we put it back down and then it won't start. Any ideas?

Re: Outboard Engine Starting Problem

Try this link to ask your question. Is iBoats forum. Specifically the Honda and Tohatsu forum. They can answer most outboard motor questions.

You may wish to be a bit more specific though ...

Re: Outboard Engine Starting Problem

If you haven't done so make sure you turn off the gas valve before tilting the motor up. It is possible that the float valve in the carburetor is not closing when tilted up, flooding the motor.
