cracked spreader

i have a cheoy lee 33 with wooden masts and spreaders one of my spreaders is cracked what is the safest (for the boat) way to get it down to be replaced without being hauled

I would tie off a halyard (or two) to a cleat on the side that the cracked spreader is on. Tension with a winch so you have some stability.
