That's always a good outlook to have, but when it comes to plumbing, I'm afraid I fall into the same camp as some of the above posters and would rather replace.

I was only adding an update in case anyone else happened upon this thread at a later date...I came across many while I was searching...

I like to take things apart, that is easy. It is the getting them back together that can be hard! I agree it is good to know how it works. I think perhaps I will install a rebuild kit on a new one before I install it. Seems to be a good way to do it without getting stuff all over yourself.
