M25 creaking deck

Hi,

I have a 1987 M25 and I can hear some creaking when walking on the deck on the starboard side (a bit on port also), just in front of the side portholes. It doesn't feel "squishy", but there is some give when I put my weight there.

Before I start drilling holes in the deck (yikes...), I was wondering if other M25 owners experience the same thing. Is this creaking normal, or should the deck feel rock solid in that location? I suspect some of the creaking might come from the friction on the wooden bulkheads inside the boat...

On a related note, does anybody here have experience with deck repairs on an M25? I'm curious as to how the deck is built, especially under the genoa rail (which is elevated compared to the surrounding deck).

(disclaimer: sorry for any wrong/misused nautical terms, french-speaker here

Thanks,
Stephane

M25 creaking deck

Creaking by itself doesn't necessarily indicate bad core. I have creaking on the cabin top where my deck is fine an none on side decks which are soaked. That said, its always smart to investigate and get ahead of any problems.

Re: M25 creaking deck

If you take a small hammer and gently tap the decks around the area in question, any areas that are delaminated or have rotten core will sound different from solid deck. That will help you to determine if there is a problem, and how extensive it is.

I have a "creaky" spot on my decks, but I have decided that it is not a big problem, just an isolated spot that is not getting worse.

Re: M25 creaking deck

I have a Universal M25 in my boat... What is an M25 boat?

My deck creaks when I walk on it. I believe that the creaking is the small bit of movement caused by my 190lb butt exerting downward force on the deck and hull liner, thus forcing the hull liner to rub (and creak) against the interior bulkheads for the V berth.

Macgregor 25 - I get it!

For a minute I thought you meant a Morris 25.
