Help Please - Replacement Items Needed

I own a 1979 43' Mao Ta. During a breakup my ex has stolen my sails, table, companionway covers, wheel, some hardware, etc.

I have an attorney & we're ready to sue (because I also have witnesses and pictures of the items in his possession), but I have to get quotes for the things he stolen and am having no luck locally (local is St. Augustine, FL).

Can someone please point me in the right direction as to where I might be able to find replacement parts for my boat (aside from salvage yards) so I can get some quotes to take to court with me?

Thanks!!

More to this than meets the eye I think. Did he by any chance buy the items in question?

CChelle,

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that your boat was built in Taiwan. If so, then much of what you have listed (table, hatches, wheel, etc.) was fabricated in the shop, and the only way to replace them will be to have them remade by a good carpenter. I think getting estimates from a tradesman is about the best you will be able to do.

What hardware went missing? Stainless or bronze?

I wish! He said that was his intention, but then stalled for 3 months every time it was time to iron out the contract there was one more reason he couldn't come up with the money, or he didn't like the terms. When it became obvious he had no intention of buying (just trying to stay on it as long as possible while not paying) I had him barred. Unfortunately, he took a bunch of stuff with him.

Thanks for the response and advice. Yes it was built in Taiwan, and the hardware consists of both (stainless & bronze).

If I was a judge, I only play one on the internet, I'd ask you when the items were last replaced. If they never were replaced, i.e. original , then the next question would be why you think you should be awarded the cost of new items. Go to the salvage yards, get quotes and pictures of the items and submit that. Yes you have been wronged but I don't think you are going to profit from it, only made whole. Good luck, you should prevail.

That's all I want Jerry - I just want the items replaced (not necessarily new), and have had no luck finding them at the salvage yards. Either way, I will be out money to replace them and that's all I want in return.
Thanks for the good wishes.

Re: Help Please - Replacement Items Needed

As your source of information will likely not only support the amount of your claim for damages, but may also need to be introduced into evidence, you should really discuss this with your attorney to understand what you need to do.

There are all kinds of markets for used marine parts - eBay, Craigslist, retail used boat part sellers, persons parting out boats - that sell all kinds of boat parts for all different kinds of boats.

My attorney told me to get quotes for the items so we have a set amount to sue for. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find them locally at the salvage yards, sailors exchange, or local marina's. So I came here.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of people parting out boats - I'll go look through those postings right now.
