Not that much help....

1. Do you use a VHF radio on your vessel? yes
2. What size and type is your vessel? 20 to 40
3. How far would you normally journey out? inshore 10 miles
4. Do you know the 3 main benefits of VHF over mobile Phones?
yes
1 you don't need to know the persons hearing your call or their phone number
2 you can reach all parties (listening) within range
3 you can ask for help from anonymous parties.

I'm not too sure what made you think that but you nailed it. Thanks for the heads up.

1. Do you use a VHF radio on your vessel?YES
2. What size and type is your vessel?37' sailboat
3. How far would you normally journey out?up to 10 miles
4. Do you know the 3 main benefits of VHF over mobile Phones?1. 'party line' 2. Coast Guard monitors 16 3. Rugged marine unit with better range
There are many more than 3 main benefits. DSC Mayday, Mayday Relays Signal can be located by RDF. SAR aircraft use marine VHF, Ship to ship channels, communicate with lift bridges and locks...shall I go on? Cell phones are for calling home to say the breeze has died and you will be late for supper.

....... and so we bid a fond farewell to Sean and Tony. I'm sure you'll all join with me in wishing him/them/it well as they set sail on that lonely voyage across the Sea of Banishment.

4. Do you know the 3 main benefits of VHF over mobile Phones?
1. Yes
2. 30 ft sloop
3. Less than 25 miles
4. This one is a little tough as I think there are more than three benefits but here are three off the top of my head. Longer range/able to contact other ships to relay messages, longer battery life, ability to hail any and all stations in range.

There are several disadvantages to a VHF over my phone. I can't play words with friends or watch the Gangnam Style video, just to name a few...
