Mystery cockpit socket
I am the new owner of a traditional cutter from the late seventy's. as one would expect she has fittings and wiring remnants for various iterations of electronics etc.

Three of the four sockets in the cockpit I have identified, the fourth has me stumped. It is a round socket with an attached rubber cover . There are eight small holes spaced in a circle and a ninth in the middle. In the back there is a pair (red and black) attached that are presumably positive and negative 12 V. In addition there is one small black and one larger black wires .The fitting matches neither of the derelict tiller pilots left on the boat.

familiar to anyone ?

Guessing either power for a tiller autopilot or a radio handset. Can you trace where the wiring goes back to? It would either go to the DC panel or your VHF radio.

Re: Mystery cockpit socket
not to vhf. If it was wired to the panel it is now either unattached or doubled with something else. i'm trying to track it but there are groups of 4-6 identical white wires going in and out of hull spaces and cuboards . All the same , of course.

Re: Mystery cockpit socket
Sounds like an 8 pin DIN socket. Like this one?

Hard to say what it was for. DINs are used by all sorts of electronics stuff. It might have been something to connect GPS to equipment inside, or perhaps to bring radar out to a plotter.

Re: Mystery cockpit socket
I would venture a guess that it was an old radar monitor hook up so the helmsman could use it, disconnect it and use it down below. Do you have any plugs or pigtails that ressemble it at your nav station?

28 Attachment(s)
if it matches an antiquated tiller pilot, is prolly for the navico or whatever tiller pilot it matches ...
