Yes, they are very common on many diesel boats. Almost ubiquitous even.

Re: Racor Diesel fuel filter 500MA2
I use this racor on my Cal-40 with a Kabota engine and never had one problem. The filters are easy to find all over the world.

Re: Racor Diesel fuel filter 500MA2
I opted for a dual system so that I could easily switch over while keeping the engine running.

Re: Racor Diesel fuel filter 500MA2
The dual Racor was the prefab system, I would have built it myself at a lower cost, but I liked the vacuum gauge and lever layout and knew I couldn't have done it as nicely. The unit ships complete as shown in the pictures except for the backing StarBoard used for mounting in the engine room.
Here's the link to the Defender page: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?...530&id=1716464 I believe I paid around that price as well and sourced it locally in Annapolis, MD. |

Re: Racor Diesel fuel filter 500MA2
I have a dual system. I can run fuel through one filter, both filters, the other filter, or none. The boat actually had it plumbed for 2 tanks and one filter but we have one bad tanke because the previous owner filled a steel tank with water SO THAT IT WOULDN'T RUST!
I didn't have the money for another tank but I scored a second Racor 500 for $20.00 so I re-connected the hoses from the one tank to the 2 filters. It sure is nice to be able to clean one filter without having to shut her down and this way I don't need to bleed the system. |
